Saturday 18th March 2006 sees the third annual ETC Channel Punjabi Music Awards take place in Kalagram, Chandigarh. The glittering ceremony, which will be televised live across Asia, the UK & the USA, is set to witness the gathering of a galaxy of Panjabi music stars from around the globe.
Without doubt the most revered and most coveted Panjabi based music awards ceremony, this years event will be anchored by Bollywood star Gulshan Grover and the popular singer/actress, Rajeshwari. The night will see scintillating performances by some of the biggest names from within the Panjabi music industry including Jazzy B, Malkit Singh, Sardool Sikander, Nooran Laal and also a performance by Bollywood babe Rakhi Sawant.
The highlight of the whole ceremony will be a specially-composed song to be rendered by twenty top Panjabi vocalists; the sixteen-minute song is a tribute to the glory of Panjabi music and has been written by Babu Singh Mann and composed by Jaidev.
Mr J.S. Kohli, CEO of ETC Networks Ltd commented on the awards, “Through these annual awards, the channel honours outstanding achievements in Punjabi music in various categories ranging from singing, composing, and music direction to choreography and many other important categories. The award ceremony has a total number of 26 different categories covering every aspect of the Punjabi Music Industry.”
Mr. Rabindra Narayan, President of the ETC Channel Punjabi added, “We are grateful to the entire Punjabi Music Industry which supported the first and second editions of ETC Channel Punjabi Music Awards. We were touched by the comments of a legend like Yash Chopra who said that the spirit of camaraderie and bonhomie makes one feel as if the ceremony was organized by and for the Punjabi artistes themselves and not by a channel.”
UK-based artists will again have a heavy presence at the awards with Sukshinder Shinda, Jazzy B, Jassi Sidhu, Malkit Singh, Pete Ware, Tom Lowry, Dr Zeus, Himmat Singh, Amrit Saab & Taj-e all nominated in various category’s. Female vocalist Nimrita is also nominated as best new female vocalist after her exploits on ‘Mankeh,’ taken from J-Skillz’ massive album of 2004 ‘J-Skillz Pre’sentz.
