D-Boy brings something new to the British Hiphop and Grime community – Pyro Radio
The new art music video launch for the music project with experimental producer D-Boy and grime MC of the moment Wretch 32 explores the realities and narrates a story about forbidden love and struggles that two people in love from different cultures can face even in modern times.
The black and white video has been directed by Chan Spencer and amalgamates photography and animation techniques to bring the story to life.
A complete live studio recording session at Miloko studios features Wretch 32 and Sef on vocals, live piano and cello overdubs by Katherine Kontz, acoustic guitar by Henri Vaxby and violin by Will Alleyne.
The single is taken from D-Boy’s album ‘Playback’ and it has found champions on Radio 1, Kiss, Asian Network and 1Xtra. DJ Nihal [Radio 1] says ‘‘D-boy never lets me down, from underground street bangers to dance floor anthems, he’s always on point. I can’t wait to drop his productions in my set’’.
D-Boy has already done a live BBC Introducing session at Maida Vale. Claire Thomas described the session as “stunning and really showcasing D-Boy's talent as an artist and collaborator”.
D-Boy [aka Daniel Naqui] has already notched up hits and produced for The Reelists, won the British Academy of Songwriters and Composers ‘Overall Best Song’ in 2005 and second place for best song with the Songwriters Academy. D-Boy was also behind the development of artist Bruce Boniface who is now signed to Sony and who recently penned ‘Lie About Us’ for Avant featuring Nicole Scherzinger.
The new album ‘Playback’, features experimental tabla meets grime, classical meets electro tracks featuring Baby Blue, Pyrelli, Selah, Sharifa Shi, Des-C and more.
