SimplyBhangra.com Hits of 2016 Part 2
Who doesn't know Panjabi MC? Over the years he has released smash-hit dancefloor anthems. He has yet again had another phenomenal year with his track 'Piche Ni Chad De' featuring Sahib which reached top of the charts and has taken a space in SimplyBhangra's top songs of the year. Recently his track entitled 'Gora Gora' received an overwhelming response and the video has now been released!
He had this to say when asked why the track was such a success: “I wanted to do something that sounded a bit 80-90s for a while, when I heard the vocal recorded in india. I thought it would be the perfect blend between old school and new school; it’s something that everyone can relate to. I'm back in the studio a lot more this year so hopefully there will be some singles and an album. "56 Districts". I have a few songs recorded but at the moment still recording some fresh concepts”.
Ninja is one of the most talented artists in the Punjabi music industry, he had a very successful debut album when he released ‘Evergreen’ in 2015. That album featured hit tracks such as ‘Desi Da Record’, ‘Evergreen’ and ‘Flying Cars’. Ninja’s biggest of his young career so far has been Thokda Reha which he released in mid 2015 and is still popular even now. He recently did a sold out tour all across Canada with the likes of Kulwinder Billa, Happy Raikoti, Sunanda Sharma, Gurvinder Brar and Bobby Layal.
This year he kept busy by releasing many tracks, he started the year off by releasing ‘Dil’ which was a Valentines Day love track and has been releasing tracks on an occasional basis. His Viah track was created to be apart of the Punjabi film ‘Once Upon A Time In Amritsar’ and ever since the release it has blown up and been apart of most wedding celebrations. He has ended the year off with ‘Insa’, ‘License’ and his newest track ‘Oh Ku Ni Jaan Ske’ which released this week.
Ninja has this to say when asked about the track: “The track just happened, their were no plans for it but the movie guys wanted to do a promotional song for the movie with me. Lyricist Mr. Dharambir Bhangu approached my Vadde Bhaji (UMESH Karmawala), he liked the song and so he discussed it with me and we did it. The rest is the history . I will be releasing a song titled ‘Mere Dil De Kareeb Ha and also in 2017 I have alot of things coming , 3 movies with big banners as a lead Hero and more than 12 video songs including a World Tour and yes I would like to thanks my Fans for supporting me through out”.
Ranjit Bawa – Sher Marna
What can i say about Ranjit Bawa... he has shown his versatility throughout the last few years through his music videos for ‘Tankha’ ‘Mere Sardarniye’ ‘Chandigarh Returns (3 Lakh)’ ‘Ja Ve Mundya’ and ‘Sher Marna’ which secured a place as one of our top songs of the year. Sher Marna featured music from Desi Routz and lyrics from Jatinder Jeet Sandhu.
Ammy Virk is another one of our young talents in the industry... not only in music but he is also one of the artists who has had the opportunity to act in Punjabi films. His debut film was ‘Angrej’ which he featured in with the likes of Amrinder Gill, Binnu Dhillon and many more. In 2016 he was cast in 3 films which included ‘Ardaas’ ‘Bambukat’ and ‘Nikka Zaildar’ and also featured in their soundtracks.
Ammy ended off 2015 with a huge track which was titled ‘Zindabaad Yaariyan and hasn’t looked back since releasing hit track after hit track. He had a duet with female Punjabi artist Kaur B in the film Bambukat titled ‘Kainthe Wala’ which received a huge response from all his fans and music lovers all around the world. Ammy also had successful tracks such as ‘Mini Cooper’ ‘Surma To Sandals’ ‘Lagdi Na Akh’ and of course the track we have decided to name one of the top songs of the year ‘Haan Kargi’ which is definitely one of the top love songs that was released this year. The music for the track was done by Gupz Sehra and lyrics were written by Amrit Maan.
'Yaar Anmulle' was Sharry's breakthrough track in the Bhangra industry after which he released hit after hit. This year his track 'Vadda Bai' which he also wrote the lyrics was a huge success worldwide. He also released 'Dil Da Dimaag' and 'Carrom Board' and ‘Hashtag’ as well as going on international tours in countries such as Italy and Melbourne. The lyrics for the track were written by Sharry himself with music coming from Nick Dhammu. There is something unique about his songs which have made his songs stand out and receive a phenomenal response.
Gippy Grewal – Patt Lainge
Gippy Grewal is one of the top artists in the Punjabi music industry year after year and has become one of the most popular Punjabi singers being cast in films. Gippy has been involved in 14 films that already have been released and there will be news of even more upcoming films from him. He, along with Diljit seem to always be the go to actors that directors and movie producers seem to go to as they have had huge success in the industry already. Gippy released his ‘Desi Rockstar 2’ album very early this year and received a tremendous response, he also did a song in the Hindi film ‘Befikre’ soundtrack along with Harshdeep Kaur.
Gippy Grewal’s newest tracks include ‘Oscar’ ‘Jatt On Top’ and most recently ‘Ghat Boldi’. Patt Lainge is a track he has done with popular female artist Neha Kakkar with music produced by one of the most popular producers in the music industry Dr. Zeus. The song comes from the ‘Desi Rockstar 2’ album and featured lyrics from Kamal Kharoud.
Jazzy B – Leap Wala Saal
Jazzy B is an International icon and holds the title of the 'Crown Prince of Bhangra'. Jazzy released 'Leap Wala Saal' where he featured in a new look, the beat and particular lines caught his ears which made him want to be part of the song. The lyrics were those of Veet Baljit and the music was produced by DJ Flow.
Jazzy had a busy year once again but this is expected now as he is one of the biggest artists in the industry and an icon that everyone looks up to. He released tracks such as 'Shikaar' where he worked alongside Kaur B and Amrit Maan, ‘Dynamite’ where he featured in the track with Roach Kill and Dr. Zeus and he recently released 'Trendster' asang 'Gobind Da Sardar' in the Punjabi Movie 'Sardar Saab.'
Jazzy was inducted into the British Columbia Hall Of Fame this year and became the first South Asian star to join the Hall Of Fame. At the Punjabi Music Awards 2016 he received an award the Best Non-Resident Punjabi Vocalist for the track entitled 'Repeat.'
Jazzy B has since announced that he will be releasing a new album in early 2017 alongside music man Sukshinder Shinda who has mentored Jazzy since the early 1990’s. The album will be tittled ‘ Folk N Funky 2’ which will be an entirely folk album, ‘Folk N Funky’ was released in 1995 and was a huge album that features ‘Londono Patola’ one of the biggest tracks of all time in Punjabi music.
