Channi Singh (Alaap) collects OBE at Windsor Castle
Bhangra legend Channi Singh, who became the first Punjabi music artist to be appointed with the prestigious honour of an OBE from the Queen of England (Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire), for his services to Bhangra music, Charity and community work, was invited to Windsor Castle, one of the Queen’s official residences, on Thursday 5th October 2012 to collect his award.
Channi’s wife Dhano, his daughter Mona and brother Paramjit Singh, who flew in from India especially for this auspicious occasion, joined Channi at the ceremony and watched with great pride while he was presented with his OBE award by the Princess Royal – Princess Anne.
‘This was a very special and momentous day for my family, the community and me. I felt greatly honoured and privileged to receive this esteemed award and be recognised for my contributions’, expressed a delighted Channi.
The official announcement of Channi’s OBE appointment was made in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2012, published on 16th June 2012, where this great achievement was credited.
