Vikas Kohli Collaborates with Apache Indian.
Fresh on the heels of "The Bee," a film Vikas Kohli worked on with filmmaker Vikram Dasgupta, winning both an award and a special honourable mention by Deepa Mehta at this weeks TUFF (Toronto Underground Film Festival), composer and music producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs has another full calendar this October.
Kohli will have a song he produced screening as a music video and appear on a film panel at the 11th annual FILMI Toronto's South Asian film festival (sponsored in part by Rogers), as well as release a collaboration with international recording artist Apache Indian.
"FILMI is one of those great gems of a festival that has been amazing to me by screening films and music videos I've composed for over the years. When a co-founder like Dinesh Sachdev asks you to speak, you just can't refuse." commented composer and music producer Vikas Kohli of FatLabs.
Known for scoring both Bollywood feature films as well as North American films, Kohli is scheduled to appear on a special "Composing For Film" panel in association with TorontoFilmmakers.com at 725 King St W on Sun Oct 3 at 2:30PM. South Asian rock artist jsin will also have his new single "Inside", a song produced/co-written by Vikas Kohli, directed by M.A.G., and programmed to screen at FILMI by Deejay Ra as a tie in to the Sundance selected feature film on Islamic Punk music, "Taqwacore" on Sat Oct 2 at Revue Cinema. FILMI screenings run from Thur Sept 30 to Sun Oct 3 at Jackman Hall, Revue Cinema (2 nights) and Bloor Cinema, respectively.
Kohli also produced and co-wrote "Indian Boy" by South Asian Pop artist Rebecca Nazz, which features UK legend Apache Indian. The House-infused pop song will be released (and available on iTunes) Sep 25 as the debut single off of Rebecca's latest CD. "I was totally inspired when I heard the production coming out of the FatLabs camp! Totally fresh and in a class of its own!" stated Apache, who is best known for his string of 90s Reggae/Bhangra fusion hits, including "Boom Shack-A-Lak" and "Arranged Marriage". He further added, "I will be fully supporting this campaign in the UK and across the world...It's all about supporting real talent and this is as real as it gets!"
