As 2008 comes to a close, we thought that we’d bring you one of the biggest interviews of the year! They have made an international name for themselves with songs such as “Aaja Mahi” and “Sadi Gali.” They took over the Bollywood industry with chat-toppers like “Rafta Rafta” and “Singh is Kingg.” With a new album in the works and more Bollywood offers, RDB – Rhythm Dhol Bass – is showing everyone where hard word, dedication, and passion can truly take you in life! Our top-secret writer in the US, Tirusha Dave, had a chance to catch up RDB’s very own Manj Ral and his amazing wife (and singer) Nindy Kaur for an exclusive interview!

It’s always a pleasure to talk to you guys! Both of you have come so far in your musical careers! What do you guys think has been your most memorable moment, on a musical level, from 2008?

Nindy – The most memorable for me has to be performing with Akshay at the Toronto Film Festival!

Manj – The IIFAS 2008 in Bangkok!

Manj, what was your debut performance like!

Wow! It’s been so long I really don’t remember! Sorry!

What about you Nindy…When was your debut performance?

2004 – It was when we toured the states with Shezad Roy & Sukhbir. It was definitely a lot of fun!  The debut release was the track “Aja Sajana” which was featured on the album “Danger 3” by Untouchables Records. There was also “Gur Nalo Ishq” and “Gidha Pao,” which were both later featured on DJH's debut album.

Manj, tell us a little bit about your relationship with Akshay Kumar and how it started?

Well it came about from a simple phone call from Akshay. I actually though it was a pure prank call so I told Akshay that SRK called me last week too! Haha! After getting into the conversation I realized that it really was Akshay and he expressed how much he loves RDB music and would like us to work on some tracks for his forthcoming movies.

How did you land Snoop Dogg on the title track for the movie “Singh is Kingg”?

Manj - We contacted Snoops record label and it all just went ahead as planned.

If you could collabo with any other mainstream artist, who would it be and why?

Manj – Justin Timberlake for sure; he’s an amazing vocalist!

Alright, I can’t stop thinking about this one member of RDB who not a lot of people know about! He’s sooo cute! And for those who don’t know, I’m talking about Manj and Nindy’s totally adorable son, Anoop! Everyone calls him a mini-Manj! Is that true?!

Nindy – Yes he most definitely has gone onto his father…habits, looks…everything! Nothing like his mommy :o(

As a mom, when Anoop gets older and he decides that he wants to enter into the music industry, what advice would you give to him?

To finish his studies and then think about the music industry!

What are some projects you guys are currently working on?

Manj – We’re working on the RDB album and also Nindy’s album. There are also quite a few upcoming projects with Akshay in Bollywood, so keep a look out! 

Nindy has also recently recorded two songs for Aftab Shivadasani's upcoming movie, “Aloo Chaat,” (releasing worldwide on December 19, 2008) in which RDB and her are also in the music video!

In addition to that, Nindy’s entrancing vocals will also be heard on two tracks on RDB’s forthcoming album, releasing in early 2009.

Nindy’s solo album is also set to release in 2009 as well! And if that wasn’t enough, keep your eyes and ears ready for this one – Nindy will be touring with RDB in early 2009 for their album release as well!

Nindy, tell us a little bit more about the track(s) for the movie “Aloo Chaat.”

I sang two songs in Aftab Shivadasani's movie called Aloo Chaat. I and RDB will be featured in the music video for this movie too! I sang a solo of pure Desi boliyan for a ladies sangeet scene which Aamana Shariff is acting. Manj and I also sang an upbeat duet which will have a music video staring RDB…so yeah exciting stuff! 

 

Alright guys, I’ve been asked this a lot over the past two/three weeks…how does someone get RDB to perform at their wedding?!

I’ll make a mental note about that one! Alright Nindy…time for some quick questions! What’s the one thing you really want for Christmas?

Hmmm…I wouldn’t be able to tell you really ‘cause Manj showers me with surprises and gifts all the time! I would say I have everything I have ever wished for!

Who is harder to shop for during the holidays…Kuly or Surj?

Nindy – Hmm…I would have to say Surj; he’s the picky one! Kuly loves anything you give him, haha! 

They have always been supportive and behind me, they are great brother in-laws and I love the fact that everything is within the family.  Together we have become an indestructible team and a force no to mess around with.

What does Anoop want for Christmas?

Nindy – Want or what he’s getting?! He’s into Spiderman right now! He gets spoilt from everyone, everywhere! Kuly and Surj spoil him rotten; grandparents spoil him rotten…so he’s going to get spoilt no matter what!

Spiderman! Yet another mental note, haha! If you had to give both Snoop Dogg and Akshay Kumar Christmas presents, what would it be?

Manj – I would give both of them an RDB & Nindy Kaur album…LOL!

I want one too, haha! Alright Manj…here’s a quirky question, haha! If you could take any Christmas song and give it a little Desi/Bhangra flavor which one would you pick?
