ALOO CHAAT SONGS ? BEHIND THE SCENES

Title track - Aloo Chaat - RDB

The filming of this song was planned on a certain date, but the arrival of the music group RDB got preponed by a few days, and all of a sudden there were only two days left to shoot the song. 48 hours- that?s all that there was with no ideas, no sets in place and no plan of action. It?s at such a time when all the thinking heads at Redice got together to plan the execution of the song. Brainstorming for hours and hours on end finally resulted in a specific look and treatment to be given to the song. Shooting of the song involved taking shots at super high speed of 800 frames per second (which is more than 30 times slower than normal speed of motion) to taking shots at 2 frames per second (which is 12 times faster than normal speed of motion). It was a great experience where the envelope was pushed, and finally the results gotten were worthy of all the hard work put in by everyone involved in making of the song.

Aloo Chaat (Vipin Mishra)

The filming of this song was fun and rather unusual, cause it is not often one shoots a song without the use of a film camera. The whole song was shot using a still camera, with nothing but green chroma screen in the background. The song employed a technique in which various actions or expression of characters were frozen in time and captured as high resolution still images. The selected still images were then stitched together to form sequences, which give the impression of motion. These sequences were then blended with computer generated environments and matte paintings to complete the comic book effect. This technique resulted in creating a visual imagery which has a very distinct look and feel to it. The whole process took about a month and half, but the end result was most definitely worth the time spent.

Dhadke Jiya (By Xulfi)

This song was shot on the last two days of the films schedule. It was a very hectic shoot, where the whole crew was constantly on the move as one had to cover long distances all over Delhi. The most interesting episode happened when the song was getting filmed at Red Fort in old Delhi. At about 3 pm on a very sunny day, it suddenly got a little dark, and before one knew it, there was a heavy downpour. What happened next was the best part when the whole unit including the actors and technicians unexpectedly started dancing and enjoying the song in the rain with gay abandon and joy, which made it truly memorable.

Giddha (By RBD)

Punjabis love a song and dance about them, and this track exemplified that spirit in the most perfect way. Most of the actors in the film are Punjabis in real life, and this track is based on Punjabi folk tunes. It was the perfect match, where every cast member in the film including the non-Punjabi ones let their hair down and immensely enjoyed dancing to this track on screen.
