Get ready for Karen David?s Magic Carpet Ride!
Indian born, Canadian raised, UK based, singer, songwriter and actress Karen Shenaz David is gearing up to release her fantastic new single “Magic Carpet Ride”. The gorgeous Karen is no stranger to the world of entertainment - having worked on several recording, film and TV projects in the UK during the past five years.
“Magic Carpet Ride” is the perfect fusion of pop, dance and Desi beats, written by Karen with producers The Bombay Dub Orchestra, sampling the classic “Dum Maro Dum” from the iconic film “Hare Krishna Hare Rama”. The single features a host of remixes from the likes of Nucleya, Kully B & Gussy G, DJ Shadow and DJ Pathaan.
Watch out for Karen’s debut music video, hitting TV screens very soon. Karen says: “The Magic Carpet Ride video is very special to me. It’s amazing what you can do with team work, some faith, and a lot of creativity. I had so much fun making the video, everyone came together and we had a great two days shooting it! Hope you guys like it!”
Karen’s history on stage and screen already boasts her working with a variety of top names in the business. After originally being spotted by legendary composer AR Rahman during her stint in the hit West End musical “Mamma Mia”, Karen’s career has come along leaps and bounds. She went on to work with Rahman in the development of the stage musical “Bombay Dreams,” write and record with him on the soundtrack for “Provoked” (a movie which she also starred in, alongside Aishwariya Rai, Robbie Coltrane, Miranda Richardson and Naveen Andrews), and of course pen a couple of songs with him in Chennai for her own forthcoming album.
In 2008, the multi-talented Karen David released her debut EP “The Live Sessions” as well as starring in Terry Pratchett’s “Colour of Magic” and as the lead in “The Scorpion King 2 – The Rise of a Warrior”, the prequel to the blockbuster movie “The Scorpion King”. The latter role made her a South Asian sex symbol across North America and in Canada, where she spent much of her younger years before moving to London to study at the Guilford School of Acting.
“Magic Carpet Ride” is a continuation of Karen’s determined rise to success. This year has seen her host and perform at the UK Asian Music Awards and will soon find her opposite the likes of Vince Vaughn and “Sex and the City” actress Kristen Davis in the upcoming Hollywood movie “Couples Retreat”.
Whether it’s singing, acting or presenting, Karen David will definitely be one of the faces to look out for in 2009!
