Pingalwara President honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Pingalwara President Bibi Dr. Inderjit Kaur honoured with Lifetime Achievement at Third Annual Sikh Awards.

The Sikh Awards were held at The Park Plaza Hotel, Westminster Bridge, London on Sunday 21st October 2012. The Awards recognised Sikh contributions and excellence in a variety of fields from nominations received from around the world.

All-India Pingalwara Charitable Trust’s President Dr Inderjit Kaur was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in the field of social service and was presented the award by Sant Iqbal Singh Ji of Baru Sahib, the President of The Kalgidhar Society. The Pingalwara organisation provides shelter to 1,300 disabled, terminally ill, old or abandoned people. She dedicated the award to her parents who taught her about Sikhism and selfless service, Bhagat Puran Singh Ji who founded the charity and everyone who works with her in India. She also thanked all the supporters from the United Kingdom who give generously and play a major role in ensuring Pingalwala continues to serve the wider community in India.

The UK’s richest man Mr Lakshmi Mittal attended and received the Special Recognition Award from the world Sikh community for his joint venture between State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and Mittal Energy Ltd, in the Punjab region of India.

Acknowledging the award Mittal said I am very proud to be associated with the project in Bhatinda, Punjab. I have seen a great deal of motivation and dedication from the community in Punjab and he rededicated the award to the 45,000 people who now working on this new site. He also acknowledged the support of the Indian government and the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in making the project a reality and helping develop the economy of the region.

In response to the awards being held in London the Mayor Boris Johnson said, “I consider London to be the most multicultural city in the world, and have seen first-hand the hard work, dedication and religious strength that sits at the heart of everything the Sikh community do. Sikhs are a credit to this city and bring pride and respect where ever they go in the world through their actions, deeds and unique identity".

This year, the gala ceremony was presented by former Mayoral advisor Mr Kulveer Ranger and model/actress Ms Anu Singh. Over 750 guests attended including Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, BBC’s Head of religious programming Mr Tommy Nagra, Ms Charlotte Leslie MP, Mr Paul Uppal MP and Dr Kate Wharton from the Archbishop of Canterbury’s office.
