desiFEST 2012, Toronto It’s Time To Get Desified!

desiFEST, presented by Rogers Communications, is set to celebrate another year of outstanding South Asian music and talent. desiFEST, the largest South Asian music concert, produced by Namaste Marketing Group and will be hosted at Yonge -Dundas Square in Toronto, on Saturday May 26, 2012.

Get ready to get desiFIED! desiFEST (presented by Rogers) is set to celebrate another year of great music and talent as the festival announces its highly anticipated 2012 artist line-up. Namaste Marketing Group is proud to bring you the festival – the largest South Asian Music concert in Canada – on Saturday May 26, 2012 at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto.

desiFEST's 2012 line-up continues to showcase a mix of new artists and veterans, who have had success over the years locally and internationally in the music industry. The festival’s urban line-up includes Scarborough native Roach Killa (the first South Asian artist to have a rap single go #1 on the BBC Asian Network charts) and Rexdale rap artist Blitzkrieg (a two-time UK Asian Music Awards nominee and another BBC Asian Network chart-topper alumni).

Pop artist Shobha from Halifax (a former Canadian Radio Star winner) will be presenting her new Black Eyed Peas inspired group "Triple Or Nothing", while Stephanie Braganza (a 2011 Toronto Independent Music Awards nominee) will showcase her chart-topping hits like "Good 2 Be" and "Fantasy".

On the Bollywood end, Ottawa's own Shweta Subram will be showcasing a mix of cover and original songs, fresh off her performances at the 2011 IIFA Awards that were televised to millions of viewers around the world. Following his recent record deal with multi-platinum Bollywood supergroup RDB, Markham's Parichay will also be performing some of his recent hits featured in major Bollywood motion pictures. Punjabi folk singer Deep Jandu from Mississauga is another South Asian Canadian name to find record deal success in India, who is excited to return home to showcase his classic and new music at desiFEST.

Juno nominated group A-Slam will be making the trip from their hometown of Vancouver to represent the West Coast at desiFEST, while newcomers Synsational, Urvah Khan, Daveh, Nick Pandya and Anusha S. are also excited to become desiFEST alumni.

This year’s special international guest performers are UK supergroup “The Stranger Family” which includes Junai Kaden, Mumzy Stranger, Tasha Tah, Char Avell, and Ramee.

Each year, desiFEST features 12 hours of entertaining music and dance performances in the heart of downtown Toronto. The festival gives audiences of all ages and cultures the ability to enjoy South Asian music, arts, and culture. Included in the celebration is a selection of South Asian delicacies available in the food market, artisans in the merchant market, the Rogers “desiFEST Show Us Your Moves” activation booth, and CIBC’s Kid’s Zone – that entertains kids with a popular bouncy castle and other activities.

desiFEST has provided artists a platform to showcase their talents for many years now. The festival has hosted over 150 artists such as Apache Indian, JoSH, Taz & Stereo Nation, Anita Lerche, Raghav, Roach Killa, The Bilz & Kashif, Parichay and Shweta, among many others.

desiFEST is Canada’s only national South Asian music festival. The annual event creates opportunities for South Asian artists and South Asian inspired music, while strengthening local communities, inspiring youth, and supporting the arts community in Canada. In it’s 6-year history, desiFEST has toured Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
