We are all familiar with the renowned singer, Nirmal Sidhu.  Before we get into the details of his religious album release, let’s place the spotlight onto Jugni Records.  Many of you may not know of Jugni Records.  But let me tell you that this name is not to be forgotten! Why?  Well, because Jugni Records is about to change the ways of music across North America.

Why debut with Bandgi?

Bandgi is Nirmal Sidhu’s first religious album featuring his son, Nav Sidhu.  The album is based on Hazrat Baba Fariduddin Ganjshakar’s (Baba Farid) beautifully constructed shaloks.

Baba Farid Ji, a Muslim Sufi, is generally recognized as the first major poet of the Punjabi language and is considered one of the pivotal saints of the Punjab region. Revered by Muslims and Hindus, he is also considered one of the fifteen Sikh Bhagats within Sikhism and his selected works form part of the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh sacred scripture.

One of Baba Farid’s most important contributions to Punjabi literature was his development of the language for literary purposes. By using Punjabi as the language of poetry, Baba Farid laid the basis for a vernacular Punjabi literature that would be developed later. Baba Farid Ji was the first Punjabi saint, or should we say the father of Punjabi culture. A 12th century Sufi preacher whose 116 hymns in Punjabi were recognized and given the highest regard and status after they were procured by Guru Nanak Dev Ji from Sheikh Ibrahim, the 12th successor of Shiekh Farid and later preserved in Adi Granth, (Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji). Baba Farid, a people’s poet, was a very pious, humble and religious man of impeccable character. He led a simple life.

Having two masters on one Project, one as the master of Punjabi poetry, and the other as the master of Punjabi music, it was not too long for Jugni Records to realize the importance of producing this album. Jugni Records feels proud to launch BANDGI in North America on the 29th of August, 2010. We at Jugni Records intend and envision that every Punjabi music lover gets their hands on this album.

Why debut with Nirmal Sidhu?

Nirmal Sidhu needs no introduction. He is a well-known veteran (30+ Years) Punjabi singer who has mastered the art of Punjabi music. He has trained in all genres of Punjabi music such as Pop, Classical, Ghazal, Qawaali. In his early years, Nirmal was an accomplished music composer and successfully produced music for singers like Master Salim. As it is often said that the fruit does not fall too far away from the tree, Nav Sidhu has started following his father’s footsteps. From his vocal quality, it is clearly evident that Nav is the singing-sensation to watch in the near future.
