Oscars Coming to UK

The IIFA awards, Bollywood’s answer to the Oscars, are returning to Britain for the first time since 2000, bringing the best of Bollywood glitz and glamour to Yorkshire and the north. British stars attending alongside Bollywood ‘royalty’ include Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Monty Panesar and Kate Winslet.

Bollywood stars will include Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai.

Ikonz, the UK’s premier Brit-Asian magazine is an official media partner of the IIFA’s and will be present throughout the ceremony and three-day event.

Ikonz, based in Birmingham, has come a long way since only launching nationally in February 2007. Editor Reena Combo, 25, from Wolverhampton, was the brains behind the magazine and in the short time it’s graced the high street, the magazine has already bagged interviews with stars including Halle Berry, Jessica Alba and Shilpa Shetty alongside Bollywood luminaries.

Reena, who will be rubbing shoulders with the stars at the IIFA awards ceremony, said of her experience:
“I think it’s wonderful that Ikonz magazine is a part of the IIFA experience. The IIFA awards are an opportunity for British Asians to celebrate the best of Bollywood cinema and for the rest of the world to enjoy the pomp and ceremony of the world’s biggest film industry. It will be a star-studded fusion of Hollywood and Bollywood glamour with British stars thrown in for good measure. It truly will be an Indian summer.”

Reena Combo and Ikonz will be covering the event, which takes place between 7th-9th June 2007. Reena Combo will be available for information or comments relating to the IIFA’s from a British-Asian perspective.
