With his third studio album expected to be a success and fame imminent, the exciting, newfangled sound that he has made his own is certain to gain interest from across the world.

The development of his unique style is the result of a lifetime of musical influence. Growing up in a talented musical family meant that Gupz was always surrounded by different forms of music. His Father is a full-time Bhangra singer with various bands, and his parents exposed him to a wealth of music as a child, all of which influenced his development. His first foray into learning an instrument himself came when he started to play the Tabla aged just 9 years old. Later he began to play Acoustic Drums and Keyboards, which he continued with for 8 years before finally picking up the microphone at the age of 17, a decision which he never looked back from.

As his confidence grew and his style developed, he soon saw a loyal following begin to grow and he became a popular local hit on Kenya’s Premier Asian Mix, East Fm first as their Breakfast host for four years and then as the Drive time host on “The Rush, your big drive home. His talent with a variety of musical instruments and ability to entertain only added to his appeal, and his unique sound with a twist started to find an appreciative audience.

It was at East Fm, that Metz N Trix met Gupz Saund. After their interview on the show, a friendly music industry conversation led to a couple of emails exchanging when back home and that was the birth of Kerre Velle.

Gupz Saund is keen to point out that everything he listens to directs his musical development in some way. However, he would certainly include the late Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Father Amrik Singh Saund as amongst his biggest influences.

Kerre Velle provides a combination of Gupz Saund’s exciting production and powerful vocals, with a rhythmic undercurrent that bears testament to his musical ability, and punctuated throughout with elements of traditional Bhangra, hip-hop, punk, pop and House. ‘Kerre Velle’ means ‘when?’ And if the whole of the first sentence of the song were to be translated it would say, ‘when did god make you? When did he put that black beauty spot on you? And as if that wasn’t enough, Gupz has taken it upon himself to take up an entirely different, though wholly satisfying, hobby of crafting his own lyrics. The satisfaction he gets from indulging in his new found passion has led to explosive results.

‘Kerre Velle’ Gupz Saund Feat. Metz N Trix available on itunes from May 2011.
