Black Friday is based on the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai which many believe were organised as retaliation for the Bombay riots which left over 1,500 people dead, mainly Muslims.  The movie was to be released in late 2005/06 in Indian theatres but as on the eve of its release a petition was filed by the persons named in the film, the alleged perpetrators of the crime, seeking a stay. 

The movie has finally got the go-ahead to release and was released on 09-Feb-2007 in India, nearly 2 years after the film was shot.
